UC or OSU?

When you are looking at these two options, typically there is an education that will come out of it, but not this time. These are the two hospitals that we are looking at for Spinraza injections, but more about that in a moment. First, sorry it’s been nearly two months (wow summer flew by) without an update. Our summer was full of small bumps in our personal journey. Some we are still trying to recover from, but during all of those bumps we were able to see God’s hands in what was happening. God is such an amazing healer, comforter, creator, and King. Sometimes we just need to be reminded with the small bumps in the journey to see His amazing work in our lives. Now onto the updates for the Spinraza Journey, and a prayer request.
We have heard from OSU about getting the insurance portion started in the process. This is the area that has been holding most of the patients up at OSU, we are told. OSU does not want third party pharmacies handling the medication and the insurance company could have a problem with that. The OSU representative told us that it could take a month or more to get approved, but they are willing to find ways that we can get the injections even if it is not through the insurance company. With that came filling a start form with Biogen, the company that makes the Spinraza injection. Biogen has some possible funding options as well, if insurance becomes a problem.
Since filling the start form on 8-25, we have heard from Biogen and was given a case manager. Our case manager seems to be very helpful and looking out for us. She was able to find a doctor that is doing the procedure at UC (University of Cincinnati) and may be able to get us through the process faster. Since it is a holiday weekend, we are still waiting to hear back from the UC doctor. We found this information out on Chris’s birthday, which we claim is God’s present to Chris that day.
Now the prayer request we have for you all. While we wait to see if the doctor at UC can get Chris in sometime this month, please pray for guidance for us. We are relying on God’s directions throughout this journey and we want to go with the correct option. This could mean waiting longer to go to OSU or changing doctors and basically starting over in the process again if we go with UC. Either way, we are getting closer to the day of the first injection (even though we know it is still a way off). Which hospital is the one God wants us to work with? Please pray for us to know the correct path when the time comes. Thanks, and more updates coming as we continue down this journey.
